The population of Azerbaijan

exceeds 10 million.

According to estimates 91,6% of the population of the Republic are Azerbaijanis, 8,4% are representatives of other nationalities.

Among them are Russians, Lezgins, Talysh. The rest of the population is made up of Avars, Turks, Tatars, Ukrainians, Tsakhurs, Georgians (Ingiloys), Kurds, Tats and representatives of other nationalities.

The majority of Azerbaijanis are Muslim however there is strong tolerance to other religions, as well.

The region of Iran generally Iranian Azerbaijan, Caucasus generally Azerbaijan, Borchali and Dagestan, Anatolia generally Iğdır and Kars are the original geographic regions of the Azerbaijani people and the home to the majority of Azerbaijani today.
